The glue that binds us to you!

Heartland Wood Product’s edge gluing capabilities open up a whole world of opportunities. Edge gluing, the process of ripping and gluing lumber to create wider material, has a multitude of applications. Common, custom wood products that Heartland Wood Products produces using these techniques are, cabinet door panels, wider raw lumber, stair treads, stair skirt boards and post and beam caps.

One of our most popular edge glued products is our butcher block. Our customers come to us with some great ideas and uses for butcher block. They will mix species and colors for counter tops, back splashes, island tops and bars. One even had an idea for a headboard and night stand tops for a bedroom set. Butcher block care can be as simple as a rubbed mineral oil finish. This makes for easy maintenance of dings and scratches as you can simply sand them out and re-oil the surface.

Our high quality edge gluing techniques help us to deliver a wider variety of custom woodwork and millwork to our customers. Not all edge gluing is created equal, however. In our shop, your project will not be ripped if it can’t be glued and clamped that day. This is an important policy to keep in the edge gluing process. The reason being, when a fresh edge is cut on any given piece of lumber, it exposes a fresh section of that board. That fresh section and the pores in that part of the wood, immediately start wicking minerals and saps. These minerals and saps clog those pores that you want the glue to penetrate to insure a quality glue joint. This is the kind of knowledge that all of our craftspeople have acquired over the years.

Quality edge gluing, yet another skill that makes Heartland Wood Products the best in custom wood product manufacturing. “You should see what we saw!”

We love to show off our state of the art shop here at Heartland Wood Products. So check out this beauty! It’s a Time Savers Hero, planer-sander and it’s one of the workhorses of our company.

For those of you who are not aware of what a planer-sander is, it’s just that. It planes and sands a flat smooth surface. As a board or other flat, wood, product passes through, it first passes under the planer portion of the machine. The planer is not long flat blades you might have seen on smaller planers, rather it is made up of some 500 14 mm square inserts. The inserts are sharpened on all four side so when a fresh cutting edge is needed we go in and give each insert a ¼ turn.

Then the product runs under two sanding drums much like the common belt sanders we’ve all seen. To be more technical, the first is a drum and the second is referred to as a polishing platen. Currently set up with 120 grit finish belt, she puts out that professional finish Heartland Wood Products is known for.

As you can see, it is a large machine. For safety and efficiency, it is fitted with cameras and screens so the operators can see what’s going on, on the other side.

It has a million and one uses from planning lumber for raw stock to door panels to butcher block tops. With a 43” wide capacity, we are able to put a smooth surface on larger products like island tops, counter tops and doors in minutes.

Skilled craftspeople, the finest equipment and quality lumber continues to be the winning formula for us at HWP! It’s why we say, “You should see what we saw!”

What is this?

This is the kind of custom work that keeps us all excited and proud of our work here at Heartland Wood Products!

It’s called a lock miter. It makes mitering down the length of two boards easier, quicker and more accurate for us and our customers.

Applications for this joint are endless. Our customers like it for things like quick and easy assembly of post and beam caps. Glue and clamp them on site. The corner seams come out sweet!

Other common uses are newel post construction, cabinet corners and jambs.

What would you do with it?
